For a public intercultural and multilingual library in Luxembourg
Public petition n°4006

Object of the petition
For a public intercultural and multilingual library in Luxembourg: a vibrant space to celebrate our diversity Luxembourg is home to 180 nationalities, with 47% of residents holding foreign nationality. This human richness is our strength, but it deserves a concrete place in which to fully express itself: a public intercultural and multilingual library, open to everyone. Why is this project essential? • Access to reading for all: books in all family (mother-tongue) languages, free and accessible, so that every child and every family can read and learn in their own language • Equal opportunities: reducing inequalities in access to culture and education by offering resources tailored to all communities • A space for encounter: a place where cultures meet, stories are shared, and people learn from one another • Support for family-language or mother-tongue schools: more than 40 schools teaching over 30 languages could find resources and a space for their activities • A model of integration: demonstrating that Luxembourg, a multilingual country, can be an example of social cohesion and peaceful coexistence
Reason for the petition
A public intercultural and multilingual library is a place to: • Read in one's mother tongue or discover the languages of others • Share stories, traditions and knowledge across generations and cultures • Build connections through workshops, readings, exhibitions and meetings • Celebrate the diversity that makes Luxembourg so rich Five reasons to support this project 1. Recognize Luxembourg's diversity and make the country a model of integration and intercultural dialogue 2. Facilitate access to culture for all, without financial or linguistic barriers, by guaranteeing equitable access to reading and culture, free from discrimination 3. Support mother-tongue language schools and their 6,000 pupils 4. Strengthen social cohesion by creating a vibrant space offering readings, workshops, conferences and exhibitions for all ages 5. Promote lifelong language learning for everyone Because every language, every culture and every story deserve to be heard and celebrated. Because reading is a right, not a privilege. Because Luxembourg deserves a place where all its voices can resonate.
