For the Official Recognition of English in the Public Petition Process in Luxembourg

Public petition n°3676

Petitioner: Babak Rabbanipour Esfahani

This petition is available in other languages:

Purpose of the petition

The petition calls for English to be recognized as an officially accepted language for submitting public petitions to the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg, alongside French, German, and Luxembourgish. The aim is to make the petition process inclusive for the significant number of English-speaking residents, many of whom are long-term contributors to Luxembourg's society, economy, and civic life.

Reason for the petition

Despite Luxembourg's multilingual policy and the availability of an English version of the petition website, English is not currently accepted as a valid language for submitting public petitions. This presents a barrier to democratic participation for a large part of the population who may not be fluent in French, German, or Luxembourgish. Luxembourg is home to thousands of long-term English-speaking residents, including EU Blue Card holders, cross-border professionals, researchers, and families. Recognizing English officially in the petition system upholds principles of inclusion, equality, and civic engagement, without undermining the country's multilingual identity.
