Convert the A3 "Covoiturage" lane into a regular third lane open to all vehicles

Purpose of the petition

This petition calls for the conversion of the recently introduced "Covoiturage" lane on the A3 motorway, which connects the south of the country to centre, into a regular lane accessible to all vehicles, regardless of the number of passengers. The goal is to ease traffic during peak hours, reduce chronic congestion, and make more efficient use of existing infrastructure to improve overall mobility.

Reason for the petition

Since the introduction of the "Covoiturage" lane on the A3, many drivers have observed that this lane is barely used during peak hours - particularly in the morning and evening during commuter traffic. In practice, it is rare for two people living near each other to work at the same place and at the same time. As a result, the reserved lane often remains empty, while the other two lanes are heavily congested. This situation worsens traffic jams, increases travel times, and causes growing frustration among road users. In addition, many drivers use the lane illegally while driving alone, which creates a sense of unfairness for those who follow the rules and remain stuck in traffic. It is also important to note that certain sections of the A3 already include a dedicated fourth lane reserved exclusively for buses. The existence of both a bus lane and a carpool lane makes the current setup less relevant and strengthens the case for converting it. The solution is, in fact, quite simple: converting the "Covoiturage" lane into a standard third lane accessible to all would allow for better traffic distribution, a smoother flow - including for buses - and a reduction in emissions caused by traffic jams. This proposal clearly serves the public interest: it calls for more efficient use of existing infrastructure to improve mobility for all road users.
