Purpose of the petition

The pension system must be reformed in order to remain sustainable in the long term and ensure social peace for future generations. The aim of this petition is to call on the government to hold a referendum so that the people can decide on their future. Instead of presenting citizens with a fait accompli, the government should develop various reform options based on different mechanisms to ensure the sustainability of the pension system. These options should be clearly differentiated from one another - not only in terms of intensity, but also in terms of approach - and communicated in clear, understandable language so that every voter can understand what these options are about. The alternatives should ultimately be presented to the citizens for a vote in a referendum.

Reason for the petition

The fact that the pension system needs to be reformed in the long term is undisputed and necessary. But with such a far-reaching decision, it is undemocratic to present citizens with a fait accompli. The various parameters and projections of the IGSS (Inspection générale de la sécurité sociale) could serve as a basis for real alternatives in order to demonstrate the long-term effectiveness of the measures. These could provide an objective basis for all the options. There is no need for sham participation in one-sided debates, but genuine democratic co-determination.
